In this post, the contents of the Revell 04656 Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-2/4 1:48 scale model box will be reviewed based on a high-res real model photo sequence.
This post is part of the series dedicated to this scale model, you can find the complete index of the Revell Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-2/4 scale model here
Unboxing
The model comes in a paperboard box following the classic Revell boxing look. With a dimensions of around 45x30x8cm it contains a more than nice Egbert Friedl picture of the airplane in the version of the ace Hans Joachim Marseille (Bf 109 F4/Trop). It defines a model dimensions of 19cm long x 20,6cm wide.
The back part of the box shows some Revell interesting models and products, and a description of the different skill levels. Specifically this model is labeled as skill level 4 in a scale of 5, what means that the kit is made of up to 150 parts. Finally, one of the sides contains some photos of the built model that, to be honest, shows a model poorly painted.
The box contains a complete building manual, a transparent plastic bag with three sprues for the whole airplane, a small plastic bag with a single sprue for the canopy parts and a decal sheet with decals.
Regarding the manual, it is composed by ten pages with the instructions in eighteen languages (german, english, french, flamish, spanish, italian, portuguese, swedish, finnish, danish, norwegian, russian, polish, greek, turkish, czech, hungarian and slovenian).
The first page contains a background of the airplane, really interesting and complete, and the airplane specifications in its F-4 version. This introduction is, however, just written in german and english.
The instructions define in 35 steps the building process in a more than correct way. The painting guide contains two scheme colours for building the F4/Trop of Hauptmann Hans-Joachim Marseille (BF-109 W.Nr. 8673, 3/JG 27, Africa, September 1942) or the F2 of Hauptmann Hans "Assi" Hahn (BF-109 W.Nr. 5749, III/JG 2, St. Pol, France, July 1941). The color chart includes 29 colours that are covered in detail in the post Revell Messerschmitt Bf-109 F-2/4. Color chart.
As previously said the box contains three grey plastic sprues with the pieces of the airplane, one transparent plastic sprue with the canopy pieces and, finally, a decal sheet with the necessary decals for both F2 and F4/Trop models building.
Having into consideration that this kit can be bought below 20€, the balance between price and quality in terms of both finishing and detail is very good. As an example, the fact of having the possibility of building the DB601 engine and keeping it visible, though it lacked some details, is a positive point in its favour.
